GUDRUN - North Sea Coast

The Gudrun, just off the North Sea coast, isn't your ancient, barnacle-encrusted relic. This motor vessel went down in '93 after a run-in with the Gina P., so what you get is a remarkably intact wreck. We love how the relatively recent sinking means you can still make out so much of her structure. The wheelhouse is a real highlight; you can peer inside, imagine the chaos of that morning. Down in the engine room, you can see the machinery, now home to all sorts of critters. Our favourite time to dive Gudrun is on a calm day, when the visibility pushes past 10 metres. You’ll find schools of cod sheltering in the holds, sometimes a curious anglerfish tucked into a shadowy corner. There are always crabs scuttling across the decks. It’s a proper penetration dive for those with the right training, but even from the outside, circling the 36-metre length, there’s plenty to explore. It’s a strong pick for divers who appreciate a relatively "fresh" wreck and the story behind it, sitting nicely at a maximum depth of 20 metres.
