HANS PETER - North Sea Coast

The Hans Peter is a cracking little wreck, one of our favourites along this stretch of Danish coast. It’s a fishing trawler, not huge, but she went down in ’42 and has settled nicely upright on a sandy bottom at a flat 10 meters. That depth means a long bottom time, perfect for a leisurely explore. We love picking our way along her deck, imagining her working life before the war. What you’ll see now is a wreck that’s completely given itself over to the sea. The superstructure is gone, but the hull is intact, and the bow and stern are still clearly defined. It’s an artificial reef in the truest sense. Schools of pollack often cruise above the deck, and we’ve found some decent-sized cod sheltering in the deeper sections of the holds. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for crabs and small gobies. Visibility can be a bit variable here, so we always aim for slack tide on a calm day. It’s an easy dive, good for anyone comfortable with a wreck, and genuinely interesting for its history alone.
