The HAVET S.G. 189 is exactly the kind of North Sea wreck we get excited about. Sitting flat on the seabed at a comfortable 18 metres, this fishing vessel is more than just some scattered plates of steel. She’s surprisingly intact, offering plenty of areas for exploration, especially for those who appreciate a good penetration. We love slipping into the superstructure, imagining the crew’s final moments, though caution is always key – it’s a silty environment. What really makes the HAVET special, though, is the life it holds. Even without a species list, we can tell you from experience these wrecks become artificial reefs for a remarkable range of creatures. Think blennies peeking from every crevice, fat cod patrolling the decks, and the occasional ling slinking past. Visibility can be a challenge, sure, but when it’s good, the atmosphere here is incredible. Our favourite dive is always on a slack tide, with a slight northerly current, which often brings the best visibility and a chance to truly appreciate the wreck's structure before the flow picks up. Bring a good torch, slow your breath, and let the Havet reveal her secrets.
