HERMAN - North Sea Coast

We love the *Herman* wreck, not for its depth – at a mere 5 metres, it’s practically a bathtub – but for the sheer audacity of diving a dangerous wreck in the North Sea so shallow. This isn't your typical pretty coral dive. It’s an immersion into history, feeling the cold pull of the North Sea around you as you descend onto the scattered remains of what was once a mighty vessel. Visibility here is a game of chance; sometimes you get 10 metres, sometimes you're navigating by touch and the faint glow of your torch, which, for us, only adds to the adventure. The *Herman* lies broken, ribs exposed, a skeletal reminder of its fate. You'll spend your dive weaving through rusted metal, discovering nooks and crannies now home to lobsters and crabs. We've seen some surprisingly large cod lurking in the deeper shadows between the plates, perfectly camouflaged against the dark metal. It’s an ideal site for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the atmosphere and historical context over vibrant colours. Our favourite time to dive it is on a calm, overcast day; the subdued light filtering through the water just makes the wreck feel even more dramatic. Just be mindful of the currents; they can pick up quickly here.
