HMS ST GEORGE - North Sea Coast

The HMS St. George is a standout for a very specific kind of diver, and we love it for that. She’s not deep, just five metres, but that’s precisely her charm. This isn’t about colourful corals or big pelagics; it’s about history you can touch, a true piece of the past in the cold embrace of the North Sea. The wreck itself is well-broken, spread out across the seabed, giving you a real sense of the chaos from that infamous 1811 storm. You’ll spend your dive tracing outlines, discovering cannons half-buried in the sand, and feeling the sheer scale of this 100-gun battleship. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, but on a good day, sunlight filters through the water, illuminating the dark shapes of timber and metal. It’s a very moody dive, almost contemplative. Our favourite is spotting the resident conger eels that have made homes in the nooks and crannies. They’re usually curious, poking their heads out to watch you pass. This site is perfect for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the story as much as the structure, and photographers looking for something a bit different, a bit dramatic. Go at slack tide to avoid any unnecessary current.
