HOLZSCHIFF - North Sea Coast

The Holzschiff, or "Wooden Ship," off the North Sea Coast is a proper piece of history, resting at a shallow 19 metres. What we love about this site isn't just the wreck itself, but the way time and the ocean have transformed it into something unique. You won't find intact structures here; instead, it's a scattering of ribs, planks, and beams, spread across the seabed. It feels like diving through a ghost ship’s bones. We'd suggest a calm day for this one, as the North Sea can kick up a fuss, making the short boat ride and descent much more comfortable. Despite the lack of an official species list, we’ve regularly spotted cod tucked amongst the timbers, blennies peeking from crevices, and the occasional flatfish camouflaged on the sand. Our favourite part is navigating the skeletal remains, imagining the vessel's past as you fin gently through the ambient light. It’s an atmospheric dive, best for those who appreciate historical sites and the subtle beauty of a wreck reclaimed by the sea.
