Why dive here
With 95+ marine species recorded in the area - including seals & sea lions, sea turtles and jellyfish lake - HURIAIMIA offers some of North Sea Coast's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 3-19°C, warmest July, August, September.
Diving the HURIAIMIA is less about the grand scale and more about the quiet exploration of history. This old schooner, sitting in just 6 metres of water off the North Sea coast, offers a different kind of wreck dive. We love that it’s so shallow; it means incredible bottom time to really nose around. You can trace the outline of the hull, imagine the decks, and see how the sea has slowly reclaimed it. It’s a fantastic site for newer wreck divers or those who prefer a relaxed pace. Visibility can be a bit variable here, so we always check the forecasts for calm conditions – a flat sea surface usually means better light penetration. Expect to find plenty of crabs scuttling amongst the timbers, small schools of fish darting in and out of the crevices, and a surprising amount of anemones clinging to the darker nooks. Our favourite time to dive it is on a sunny day when the light filters down, creating dancing patterns over the barnacle-encrusted remains. It’s a gentle reminder of the power of the ocean, and a genuinely contemplative dive.
