IDA AMALIE - North Sea Coast

The *Ida Amalie* isn’t about huge pelagics or technicolor reefs. It’s about history, cold water, and the surprising life that claws its way onto a steel hulk in the North Sea. At just five metres deep, this is a wreck you can really spend time exploring, feeling the current tug you gently as you poke around the hull. We love how accessible it is, even for newer drysuit divers looking to get their first taste of wreck diving without the pressure of depth or complex navigation. The wreck itself is quite broken up, but you can still make out the ribs of the hull and scattered plates. Visibility here can be tricky, often just a few metres, but that just adds to the atmosphere – the wreck slowly revealing itself as you approach. Keep an eye out for the crabs scuttling over the metalwork, and the small schools of fish that shelter within the structure. It’s a site that rewards patience and a keen eye, offering a quiet, reflective dive experience rather than an adrenaline rush. Go during slack tide for the easiest conditions, and embrace the chill, knowing you're touching a piece of maritime past.
