ISLAND - North Sea Coast

ISLAND, off the North Sea Coast, is one of those wrecks that just… demands a return visit. It’s a motor vessel, sitting upright at 20 metres, and the current description calls it "dangerous," which, for us, only adds to its allure. We love a bit of a challenge, and ISLAND certainly delivers character. The wreck itself is surprisingly intact, offering plenty to poke around. You can fin past the bridge, peer into the holds, and imagine the last moments of this ship. What really makes ISLAND special, though, is how the local marine life has utterly taken over. It’s a haven for everything from plump cod lurking in the shadows to schools of pollack circling the superstructure. We’ve even spotted ling here, tucked away in crevices. Visibility can be a bit of a gamble, typical for this stretch of coast, but when it’s good, it’s truly rewarding. We’d suggest diving this one on a slack tide to really appreciate the scale and the peace of it all. It’s a site best suited for experienced divers comfortable with deeper wrecks and potentially swift currents. It’s less about bright colours and more about the drama of the wreck, the history, and the sheer volume of fish making a home out of it.
