JAN MARGRETHE - North Sea Coast

The Jan Margrethe isn't about tropical fish or shallow reefs. This is serious wreck diving, proper North Sea stuff, and we love it for its sheer character. Sunk in 1967, this coaster sits upright at 19 metres, its cargo holds open to the gloom. When the visibility cooperates, which is often surprisingly good here, you can spend an entire dive exploring its superstructure, feeling the cold steel, imagining the crew. Our favourite part is the bridge area, where schools of cod and pollock shelter, darting in and out of the shadows. What makes it special is the way the wreck has become a living reef. Anemones coat the metal, and you’ll spot crabs scuttling amongst the plates. We’ve even seen seals checking us out here, those curious eyes appearing from the blue. It’s a site for those who appreciate history, a bit of an adventure, and aren't afraid of colder water. If you’re into penetrating wrecks, the holds offer some intriguing opportunities, but always dive within your limits. This is a dive that sticks with you long after you're back on the boat, warming up.
