JOHANNE - North Sea Coast

Johanne is a site we’ve developed a real soft spot for, primarily because it's such an approachable piece of history. We’re talking about a wreck that sits in a staggering two meters of water, so shallow you can practically snorkel it, but don't let that fool you. This isn’t just a pile of rust; it’s a properly broken-up wooden wreck, scattered across a sandy bottom. What we love about Johanne is how alive it feels despite its age. Spend some time here and you'll spot flatfish tucked into the sand, curious gobies darting between the timbers, and if you’re lucky, a scuttling crab making its way across a barnacle-encrusted plank. Visibility can vary, but on a calm day, with a bit of sunlight, the way the light filters through the water and illuminates the old wood is genuinely captivating. It's a great spot for photographers looking to play with shallow light, and we'd argue it’s one of our favourite North Sea wreck experiences for anyone who appreciates the quiet beauty of a forgotten vessel. You can spend a good hour just finning gently around, taking in the details of the broken hull.
