JOSEPHINE E - North Sea Coast

The JOSEPHINE E, a fishing vessel that met its end on a stormy night in 1957, is a real character wreck off the North Sea Coast. We love how she sits upright at a modest 21 meters, her wooden superstructure largely intact, allowing for some proper penetration for those with the right training and gear. Down here, the North Sea chill is palpable, even in summer, but the wreck itself offers a surprisingly sheltered environment. Expect to navigate through schools of cod and pollock that have claimed her as home, their silver scales flashing in your torch beam. We'd suggest a calm day for this one; the North Sea can be a temperamental beast, and the conditions can shift quickly. Our favourite aspect is the engine room, surprisingly accessible and eerily preserved, with gauges still visible on the dash. This wreck is a brilliant pick for divers keen on maritime history, those who appreciate a good story, and anyone looking to explore a proper, explorable wreck rather than just observing one. It’s a genuinely atmospheric dive, feeling more like an underwater museum than just another piece of submerged metal.
