JUPITER - North Sea Coast

The Jupiter wreck isn’t your typical North Sea dive. We love that it's shallow enough at 13m for decent bottom time, even on a single tank. This old steamship lies broken, but not completely flattened, which means there’s genuine structure to explore. You’ll find yourself finning through cargo holds, or what’s left of them, where the light shafts down in dusty columns. Our favourite part is the way the wreck has been completely colonised. Think lumpsucker fish peering from crevices, velvet crabs scuttling across corroded steel, and schools of pollack circling the superstructure. It's a proper cold-water ecosystem now, and it’s surprisingly vibrant, especially on a calm day when visibility pushes past 5 metres. We'd suggest diving it on a neap tide for less current and bringing a good torch – some of the internal sections are pretty dark. Just be mindful, it’s still a dangerous wreck, so we keep a respectful distance from anything that looks unstable. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the tenacity of marine life.
