KALUNDBORG - North Sea Coast

Kalundborg, a merchant vessel that went down in 1942, sits at a very manageable 14 meters. We’ve always had a soft spot for wrecks at this kind of depth, because they give you plenty of bottom time to really soak it all in. The ship itself is a jumble, testament to its violent end, but that’s part of the charm here. You’ll weave through collapsed sections and discover surprisingly intact machinery peeking out from the gloom. It’s less about grand, sweeping views and more about the intimate exploration. Think of it as an archaeological dig with fins. Look closely and you’ll find plenty of life: nudibranchs tucked into crevices, small crabs scuttling over the plates, and the occasional cod peering out from a shadowed doorway. The visibility can be a bit of a lottery, as it often is in the North Sea, but we've found that on a calm day after a few days of settled weather, it can be remarkably clear. We’d suggest a good dive light to really pick out the details, as even on a bright day, the wreck itself casts long shadows. It’s a site for divers who appreciate history and don't mind getting up close and personal with a piece of the past.
