KOBENHAVN - North Sea Coast

The KOBENHAVN, just off Denmark’s North Sea coast, isn’t your typical Caribbean jaunt. This is proper European wreck diving. A steamship sent to the bottom in 1940, she lies at a very accessible 21 metres, making her a really good option for divers comfortable with colder water and a bit of history. We love that she’s mostly intact, the bow and stern still well-defined. You can poke your head into cargo holds, imagining the life she carried before her final dive. What truly sets the KOBENHAVN apart for us is how marine life has absolutely taken over. The metal framework now bristles with anemones, and we always spot big schools of cod lurking in the shadows, along with flatfish camouflaged on the sandy bottom nearby. The visibility can be temperamental, as is often the case in the North Sea, but on a good day, the light filtering through the green water gives the whole wreck an ethereal glow. Our tip? Go with a local guide who knows the currents; they can be surprisingly strong here. This isn’t a colourful reef, but it’s a living museum, and that’s why we keep coming back.
