KONG HALFDAN - North Sea Coast

The Kong Halfdan is a proper wreck dive, a piece of history resting at a very manageable 14 metres. We love how accessible it is, perfect for divers who are keen to explore a substantial steamship without needing advanced certs or serious deco time. Visibility can be the usual North Sea lottery, but on a good day, the ship’s outline looms large through the green, the bow and stern clearly defined even after all these years. What makes the Kong Halfdan a standout for us is its completeness. You can still make out the superstructure, the cargo holds, and even the boilers, now completely encrusted with mussels and anemones. It’s a proper shelter for the local fish population; cod hang out in the shadows, their eyes following you, and we’ve often seen schools of pollack darting through the broken sections. Our favourite part has to be finning along the deck line, imagining the ship in its former life, before that mine blast in 1944 put it here. It’s a tangible link to the past, overgrown by the present marine world.
