KUHWARDER - North Sea Coast

The *Kuhwarder* is a proper wreck dive, no doubt about it. We love sites that demand a bit of effort but give back so much, and this one, off the North Sea Coast, is exactly that. Dropping down, you hit the bow at 18 metres and the stern at 25. The ship was a German cargo vessel, sunk by a mine in 1918, and it’s surprisingly intact for its age. We’re talking about a wreck you can really explore; the holds are open, revealing machinery and scattered cargo. The visibility can be a bit of a lottery out here, but on a good day, with a decent current pushing through, the sheer scale of the *Kuhwarder* is impressive. Shoals of cod and pollock school around the deeper sections, darting in and out of the superstructure. Our favourite part is navigating the twisted metal plates and seeing how the marine growth has taken hold – anemones and dead man’s fingers coating every surface. It feels like history and nature in a cold, deep embrace. This is one for experienced wreck divers who appreciate a genuinely atmospheric site and don't mind a bit of a current.
