KUNIGUNDE - North Sea Coast

Kunigunde is a site we’ve always had a soft spot for, especially if you’re into your history and don’t mind a shallower dive. It’s not about huge pelagics here, it’s about the atmosphere and the details. This isn't a wreck you penetrate – it’s a scattering of ribs and planks, broken up by the relentless North Sea. But what a scattering it is. The real magic happens in the way the local life has completely taken over. We've seen some impressive congregations of gobies tucked into crevices, and flatfish are surprisingly common, camouflaged against the sand. Look closely for the smaller stuff – nudibranchs are here if you have the eye for them, and we’ve often found decent-sized crabs scuttling amongst the twisted metal. It’s only 6 metres deep, so your bottom time is generous, which we love for just really soaking it all in. We’d suggest going on a calm day, because visibility here can be tricky, but when it clears, the light filtering through the green water onto the shadowy structure is really quite evocative. It’s perfect for new wreck divers or anyone who appreciates the quiet dignity of history underwater.
