LISSE RUBY - North Sea Coast
The Lisse Ruby wreck, sitting at just 11 metres, is a real favourite of ours along the North Sea coast. What she lacks in depth, she more than makes up for in character. Sunk back in 1984, this old cutter vessel has had decades to become a proper artificial reef. We love poking around the wheelhouse, which is still surprisingly intact, and the open holds. You’ll find cod and pollock hanging around the deeper sections, often darting into the shadows as you approach. Look closely at the superstructure and you’ll spot nudibranchs, often the colourful sea lemon, clinging to the rust. We always try to dive the Lisse Ruby on a slack tide, otherwise, that North Sea current can really push you around. Our top tip: bring a good torch, even on a sunny day, to really illuminate the nooks where the critters hide. It’s a great site for newer wreck divers or those looking for a relaxed second dive.
