MARTINA - North Sea Coast

The Martina, a German trawler that went down in 1958, sits upright in 24 metres of water off the Danish North Sea coast. We love a good trawler wreck, and this one delivers. The visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, often settling around 5-10 metres, but when it clears, the Martina really shines. She’s largely intact, with a distinct bow and stern. You can make out the mast structure, and the wheelhouse offers some intriguing swim-throughs if you're comfortable with overhead environments and have a good torch. Our favourite part is the engine room, which is accessible to those with the right training and a knack for careful navigation. Look closely and you’ll find a surprising amount of soft coral growing on the superstructure, along with plump starfish clinging to the plates. We've seen some impressively large cod lurking in the shadow of the deck, and crabs scuttling over the winches. It’s a site that really rewards a slow, methodical exploration, perfect for divers who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of a chill in the water. We’d suggest a drysuit, even in summer.
