Mejlflak, now there's a name that might not immediately spark visions of tropical sun, but trust us, this Danish reef holds its own unique charm. We’ve always had a soft spot for North Sea diving, and Mejlflak is a prime example of why. Forget the usual suspects; here, the visibility can surprise you on a good day, opening up views of the vibrant, cold-water coral. We're talking colourful anemones swaying, sponges in unexpected hues, and the occasional whiting or cod eyeing you from a crevice. It's a proper reef, not just a rocky bottom, and that structure means plenty of nooks for butterfish and bull rout to hide in. The real joy here is the slow hunt, spotting the smaller creatures like a Nine-spined Stickleback darting between fronds, or a Spotted Dragonet camouflaged on the sand. We'd suggest going in late summer or early autumn for the best chance at calmer conditions and clearer water. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the subtle beauty of a northern ecosystem, a rewarding experience for divers who take their time and truly look.
