META MARIE - North Sea Coast

The Meta Marie, sitting at 34 metres, is a proper North Sea challenge, but one we absolutely love. It’s not just a pile of metal; this old motor vessel is a time capsule, and you can really feel the history as you descend. The sheer scale of the wreck is impressive, especially the bow, which always feels a little eerie when it looms out of the gloom. We’ve had dives here where the visibility has been a proper Danish pea-souper, and others where it opens up to a good 15 metres, revealing details like the anchor chain still mostly intact. What makes it a standout for us is the way marine life has completely taken over. Big cod often cruise around the deck, and we've seen schools of saithe so thick they practically form a wall around the superstructure. Look closely and you’ll find plenty of nudibranchs clinging to the metalwork, along with the occasional crab scuttling into a dark corner. This isn’t a shallow, colourful reef dive; it's a deep, atmospheric wreck exploration perfect for experienced divers who appreciate history and the rugged beauty of the North Sea. Our tip: pick a day with minimal wind, as the surface chop can make the descent a bit of a workout.
