MONIKA - North Sea Coast

Monika, oh Monika. This isn't your flashy tropical reef, but for wreck lovers, she’s got real character. We’re talking about a fishing vessel, and a "dangerous wreck" according to the official charts, which only adds to her allure. Lying shallow, just 10 metres down off the North Sea coast, she’s become a fantastic artificial reef. We love poking around her broken superstructure, imagining the last moments of her working life before she went down. Visibility here can be typical North Sea, meaning it varies, but on a good day, the light filtering through the green water makes for some dramatic scenes. You’ll find plenty of crabs scuttling in the shadows, and often a few curious cod or pollock eyeing you from a distance. The kelp growing on her hull sways with the gentle surge, creating a wonderfully eerie atmosphere. It’s an accessible wreck dive, perfect for those looking for something a bit different, a slice of maritime history that’s now home to the sea’s smaller inhabitants. We’d suggest going at slack tide for the easiest exploration.
