MOWE (?JOAHANNE) - North Sea Coast

The MOWE, or perhaps the JOAHANNE – the history’s a bit murky here, which honestly just adds to its allure – is one of those North Sea wrecks that we think gets unfairly overlooked. At 26 metres, it’s a comfortable depth for advanced open water divers, offering plenty of bottom time to really absorb the atmosphere. You’ll drop onto a surprisingly intact sailing vessel, her wooden timbers still holding their shape against the current. We love the way light filters down, illuminating the ghostly ribs of the hull. It’s not about flashy colours here, it's about the deep blues and the sense of history that presses in around you. What you *will* see are dense aggregations of cod and pollock, often schooling in the shadowed interior, and the whole structure is fuzzy with anemones and hydroids, creating a soft, living blanket over the aged wood. We’d suggest going on a slack tide; the North Sea can kick up a fuss, but when it’s calm, this wreck delivers a truly moody, evocative dive. It’s perfect for divers who appreciate history and the quiet beauty of a wreck reclaiming its place in the ecosystem.
