NECKAR - North Sea Coast

The NECKAR wreck, sitting at 20m, is one of our top picks when we’re on the North Sea coast. She went down in the Kattegat back in '71, a victim of bad weather, and now she’s a proper dive. You drop down onto a 53-meter steel hull, usually with a fair bit of ambient light filtering through the North Sea green, which always feels a bit moody and atmospheric. What we love about the NECKAR is how intact she still is. You can follow the deck lines, peer into cargo holds – though be mindful of penetration with that "dangerous wreck" classification. We've often found cod lurking in the shadows, their big eyes watching you, and the superstructure is covered in dead man's fingers and anemones. The engine room area is particularly interesting, even from the outside, with twisted metal and pipes making for some dramatic visuals. We always suggest a dive here on a calm day; the Kattegat can get choppy, and while the wreck is protected, the journey out can be a bumpy one. Visibility here can swing, but on a good day, 10-15m lets you appreciate the sheer scale of the ship. She’s a great wreck for those who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of genuine exploration.
