OSTERSJON - North Sea Coast

Ostersjon isn't for the faint of heart, or for those who need sunny skies and balmy water. This is proper North Sea diving, a dark, moody wreck dive that rewards effort. The Ostersjon, a steamship that went down in 1944, lies upright at 27 metres. We love how intact she is, especially the bow, which still feels imposing as you descend onto it. Visibility here can swing wildly, but when it’s good, say 10 metres, you can really appreciate her scale. Inside, there’s a surprising amount to see; the cargo holds are open, and while you won't be penetrating deep, peeking into the gloom with a torch adds to the atmosphere. Our favourite detail is the way the metalwork has become a canvas for life – dead man's fingers coral coat every surface, and schools of cod and pollock often hover just off the deck, keeping their distance but always present. This site suits experienced cold-water wreck divers who appreciate history and a bit of a challenge. If you come, aim for a slack tide and bring a good primary light; you'll need it.
