SAMSON - North Sea Coast
The Samson, a dredger that went down in 1970, lies shallow at just 5 metres. We find it’s a pretty easygoing dive, perfect for those wanting to try their hand at wreck diving without the usual depth challenges. What you’ll see is a flattened hulk, broken up over the decades, with steel plates and machinery parts scattered across the sandy bottom. It’s become a bit of an artificial reef, attracting crabs scuttling between the metal and the occasional flatfish trying to blend in. Visibility can vary here, like much of the North Sea, so picking a calm day is key to making the most of it. It’s not a grand ship to penetrate, but for a glimpse into history and some interesting bottom time, it’s a good shout.
