Skagens Rev

Skagens Rev is a place we always talk about after a Denmark trip. It’s got that raw, North Sea energy. When the conditions line up, typically late summer, the visibility opens up to a decent 10-15 metres, which for these parts, feels like a gift. You drop down onto a rocky reef, not a coral reef in the tropical sense, but a truly vibrant ecosystem of anemones and sponges clinging to the boulders. We’ve seen Atlantic cod so big they make you do a double-take, and huge schools of whiting flitting past. Keep an eye out for the flatfish, too – dab and fluke are masters of camouflage on the sandy patches. It’s a site that really comes alive with smaller details, the kind where you spend ages scrutinising crevices for a hiding eel or a velvet scoter ducking in from above. This is definitely one for divers who appreciate temperate marine life and don't mind a bit of a chill; a 7mm semi-dry or a drysuit is non-negotiable here. It suits those who like a bit of a wilder dive, not a manicured aquarium.
