Sportsdykkerklubben KVAK - North Sea Coast

Forget your typical reef dives, KVAK is something else entirely. We’re talking about a wreck dive with a difference, a purpose-sunk fishing trawler that’s now home to a surprising amount of life. Dropping down, you’ll often find yourself in a playful current, but it’s rarely unmanageable. The visibility can be a bit of a lottery – sometimes it's twenty meters of green light, other days it’s more like ten – but that just adds to the adventure. The wreck itself is intact enough to penetrate, with plenty of entry and exit points for confident divers. Inside, the darkness is broken by the glow of your torch picking out schools of whiting darting through the compartments, and we’ve even spotted greater weever lurking in the sand nearby. Outside, the hull is covered in those huge acorn barnacles, and you’ll spot common sea stars slowly traversing the metal. Keep an eye on the sand around the wreck; we’ve seen sea potatoes here and there, and the odd bristly witch flatfish trying to blend in. This site is a great pick for those who enjoy a bit of a challenge and the thrill of exploring a wreck without needing extreme depths.
