UHLAN (POSSIBLY) - North Sea Coast

The North Sea around Denmark is a graveyard for ships, and the Uhlan is one we always try to make time for. She’s a sailing vessel, gone down in a collision back in 1895, and you can really feel that history when you’re down there. The wreck lies flat at 18 metres, pretty intact for her age, which makes for some lovely exploration. What we love about the Uhlan is how the sea has truly reclaimed her. The wooden hull, once smooth, is now a rough texture of anemones and dead man's fingers, a proper living reef. You'll find ling cod lurking in the shadows of what’s left of the deck, and sometimes a curious seal will pop by for a look. Our favourite part is peeking into the collapsed holds; the light filters down in such a cool way, and you often spot flatfish camouflaged on the seabed nearby. It’s not a site for spotting megafauna, but if you appreciate the quiet beauty of a historical wreck transformed into a marine habitat, this is definitely one for you. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for the North Sea, so pick a calm day if you can.
