UTE FRESE - North Sea Coast

The Ute Frese sits in surprisingly shallow water, making it a great wreck dive for those who want to really take their time exploring. We love that it’s less about depth and more about discovery here. Sunk in 1976 after developing a heavy list in a Force 5-6 wind, she now lies broken up but still very much recognisable. You can trace the outline of the motor vessel, picking out the engine room and parts of the superstructure. What you’ll immediately notice is the sheer volume of life that has claimed this wreck. Visibility can vary, but on a good day, the light penetrates right to the seabed, illuminating schools of cod darting between the metal plates. We’ve seen crabs tucked into every crevice, and the anenomes are particularly vibrant. It’s a site that rewards a slow pace, letting your eyes adjust to the details. We’d suggest going at slack tide; the North Sea currents can be strong, and you want to be able to fin around the broken hull without fighting the push. It’s an ideal site for wreck enthusiasts keen on photography or anyone who appreciates the history of a vessel brought to rest by the sea.
