UTVIKEN - North Sea Coast

Utviken, off the North Sea Coast, isn’t your typical vibrant reef dive, and we love it for that. This site is all about the wreck, a dangerous one as the charts tell us, but that just adds to its allure. Dropping down to 19 meters, you're greeted by the skeletal remains of a vessel, its steel ribs now draped in a thick tapestry of plumose anemones. It’s a muted, ethereal landscape, especially on a day with decent visibility, where the green-grey light filters down and illuminates the wreck in an almost ghostly glow. We’ve had some cracking dives here, navigating through the holds, which are now home to inquisitive cod and flatfish hunkering in the shadows. Look closely, and you’ll spot nudibranchs grazing the anemones. Our favourite part? Finding the nooks and crannies where the wreck has started to collapse, creating swim-throughs for those comfortable with overhead environments. It’s a dive that rewards careful exploration, perfect for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the history and the way nature reclaims man-made structures. Best to dive it on a slack tide, otherwise, the current can make navigating the interior a bit of a workout.
