Why dive here
With 95+ marine species recorded in the area - including seals & sea lions, sea turtles and jellyfish lake - VALBORG offers some of North Sea Coast's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 3-19°C, warmest July, August, September.
Valborg, sitting shallow on the North Sea Coast, is a proper history lesson in just five metres of water. We love a wreck with a story, and this old dredger, mined back in ‘42, certainly has one. You’re not dropping deep here, which means incredible bottom times and plenty of light penetrating the gloom, even on a cloudy day. It’s perfect for newer wreck divers or those just looking for a relaxed bimble. The wreck itself is well broken up, but you can still make out the distinct shape of a working vessel. We’ve spent hours poking around the scattered hull plates and machinery parts. Look closely; the structure has become a home for all sorts of local critters. Expect to find crabs scuttling over the rusted metal, small schools of gobies darting between crevices, and sometimes a curious flatfish buried in the sand right next to a piece of deck gear. The visibility can be a bit variable, as is typical for the North Sea, but on a good day, the Valborg is a genuinely atmospheric dive. We’d suggest going at slack tide for the easiest exploration.
