Wreck of Alexander Nevsky - North Sea Coast

The HMS Exmouth might not be the most intact wreck in Scapa Flow, but don't let that deter you. We love her specifically because she’s been salvaged for scrap, leaving behind a skeletal structure that’s utterly unique to explore. It feels less like diving a ship and more like navigating an abstract underwater sculpture park. Descend onto the torpedo tubes, which are still remarkably clear, before dropping into the engine room, a vast space where shafts of light pierce through, illuminating schools of saithe that swirl in the currents. Visibility here can be excellent, though a bit of current often means more fish. Look out for cuckoo skates resting on the seabed nearby, and often, you'll spot common whelks slowly traversing the metalwork. Our favourite detail? The way the light plays through the bent girders and twisted plates, especially on a sunny day. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration and a keen eye for industrial decay.
