We love how the wreck lies, broken but still recognisable, with cargo scattered around – amphorae, mostly, from its ancient life. Dropping down, you feel the chill of the Aegean and the weight of centuries. The ship itself is a spectacle of rust and growth, a home for groupers and schools of damselfish that shimmer in the shafts of light penetrating the depths. This site is definitely for divers who appreciate a wreck with a story, and who are comfortable with depths beyond recreational limits. We always suggest taking your time to explore the debris field around the main hull; that’s where some of the most interesting finds are. Look for the nudibranchs on the hull plating, and if you’re lucky, a passing loggerhead turtle might just cruise by. The visibility here is often fantastic, offering clear views of the scale of the wreck, a definite bonus.
