Athina Diving - Alonissos Marine Park
The team at Athina Diving are a special bunch, and honestly, they're our top pick if you're planning to dive Alonissos. We love how they combine a seriously professional IDC operation with that relaxed, Greek island vibe. This isn't a centre that just gets you wet, it’s where you go to really hone your skills, whether you’re working towards instructor or just want to feel more confident in the water. We’d suggest them particularly for divers looking to take a significant step in their PADI certifications, or for those who appreciate diving with a knowledgeable, conservation-minded crew. The real draw here, beyond the excellent instruction, is their access to the Alonissos Marine Park. We’ve spent some fantastic days exploring the wrecks and reefs with them. The Peristera wreck, a Byzantine cargo ship, is an absolute highlight – the way the light filters down onto those ancient amphorae is quite something, almost eerie. Keep an eye out for monk seals, too; we’ve had some memorable encounters. They run trips to several spots where we’ve seen schools of barracuda so dense they look like a shimmering wall, and the rock formations at Gorgon Reef are just spectacular, covered in colourful gorgonians. Our favourite time to dive with them is late morning, after the early boat traffic has cleared, when the visibility often settles into that beautiful, calm blue. Just remember to book ahead, especially if you’re aiming for specific courses, as they get busy.
