TAXIARCHIS - Crete

The Taxiarchis, a trawler that went down off Sitia in 1976, is a shallow dive, barely reaching 2m deep. What it lacks in depth, it makes up for in character. Its ribs and plating are well-scattered across a rocky seabed, perfect for a long, relaxed snorkel or a very easy dive. We've spent time here spotting moray eels tucked into crevices and octopus camouflaged against the rust-red metal. It’s a site that rewards slow exploration, suited for photographers looking for interesting textures in natural light, or anyone wanting a gentle dip with a bit of history to it.
