EVANGELISTRIA - Dodecanese
The Evangelistria wreck, sitting in just six meters of water, is a proper charmer. We’ve drifted over it countless times, and it never gets old, particularly because the light penetration is just lovely. It’s an old freighter, sunk way back in 1965, and while it’s mostly broken up, the sheer amount of fish life that’s made it home is incredible. You'll find schools of damselfish fluttering around the remnants of the hull, and octopuses love to hide in the nooks and crannies. We particularly love poking around the bow section – it’s the most intact part, and you can really get a sense of its former self. For photographers, especially wide-angle enthusiasts, this spot is a dream. The shallow depth means you get fantastic natural light, and the wreck structure offers some interesting compositions. It’s also brilliant for newer divers wanting to get comfortable around a real wreck without the pressure of depth or strong currents. Head there in the late morning when the sun is high for the best visibility and light show. While it's classified as "dangerous," that really just means it's an old, broken wreck, not that it poses any specific dive hazard beyond the usual awareness you'd have around any submerged structure.
