CLAUDIA - South Coast
The Claudia isn't just another wreck on the South Coast. We think it's one of the best you'll find here, sitting upright and mostly intact since 1994, which means it's had plenty of time to become a proper artificial reef. Dropping onto the deck at around 30 metres, you immediately feel the scale of this fishing vessel, especially with the wheelhouse looming large. It's an atmospheric dive, often with that green Irish light filtering through, adding to the sense of exploration. We love finning along the deck, spotting conger eels tucked into every nook and cranny, their heads poking out like curious gargoyles. Around the stern, the propeller is still in place, a classic wreck photo opportunity, and the holds offer easy penetration for those with the right training and gear. Look closely at the superstructure; you'll find plenty of jewel anemones adding splashes of colour, and we've often seen schools of pollack swirling above the mast. For experienced divers comfortable with depth and perhaps a little chill, the Claudia is a genuinely rewarding dive.
