DIDO - South Coast
The Dido, a sailing vessel that met its end in 1883, now rests on the seabed at 22 metres off Ireland’s South Coast. This isn't a massive cargo ship, but rather a graceful outline, mostly broken up by time and the elements. You'll trace the remains of the hull and ribs, now thoroughly colonised by plumose anemones and dead man's fingers. Conger eels often peer out from nooks, and we’ve seen plenty of wrasse darting through the structure. It’s a good dive for those who appreciate history and the slow reclamation of the ocean, without needing vast penetration or complex navigation.
