LADY CHARLOTTE (POSSIBLY) - South Coast

Now, we’re calling this the *Lady Charlotte (Possibly)* for a reason. Pinpointing exact wrecks off the Irish coast can be a bit like finding a specific needle in a very large, very cold haystack. But whatever her true name, this site near Dromadda Rocks is a real cracker for a shallow wreck dive. We’re talking 10 metres, tops, which means plenty of bottom time, even for newer divers. What we love here is the way the wreck, a sailing vessel, has become so entwined with the rocky seabed. It's less a stark outline of a ship and more a jumble of timbers and ribs, draped in kelp and seaweeds that sway with the gentle surge. You'll find blennies peeking out from every crevice, dogfish often resting in the shadows, and conger eels can be surprisingly bold, eyeing you from their rocky dens. It’s a dive that invites slow exploration, poking around the nooks and crannies to see what surprises the wreck reveals. We’d suggest going on a calm day; even at 10 metres, a bit of swell can stir things up. Look for the glint of an old bottle or a piece of pottery – a little tangible link to that journey from Callao to Liverpool. It’s a piece of history, colonised by the present.
