LISMORE (PROBABLY) - South Coast

Lismore, or at least what we’re pretty sure is the Lismore, is one of those South Coast wrecks that feels like stepping back in time. We think it’s the Lismore, a steamship that vanished on its maiden voyage back in 1924, and the mystery just adds to the atmosphere. Dropping onto her deck at 35 metres, you’re greeted by a remarkably intact hull, considering the decades she’s spent down there. What we really love is how the ocean has reclaimed her. Schools of pollock swirl around the superstructure, their silver scales catching the light filtering down from above. We’ve spotted conger eels peeking out from cargo holds, thick as a diver's thigh, and the anemones coating the railings create a colourful, almost fuzzy texture. Exploring her holds is a real highlight, and we’d suggest bringing a good torch to really appreciate the scale. This site is definitely one for experienced divers comfortable at depth, and those who appreciate a wreck with a story, even if it’s one we’re still piecing together. The lack of strong currents here typically makes for a relaxed exploration, allowing you to really soak in the history.
