M.F.V. Mystique - South Coast

The M.F.V. Mystique, sitting off Ireland’s South Coast, isn’t just another sunken boat. It's a proper wreck dive, one we keep coming back to. The visibility here can be… well, it’s Ireland, so expect anything from a murky 5 metres to a surprisingly good 15 metres on a calm day. We always check the tides; slack water is your friend for getting the most out of it. What makes the Mystique special is its intact nature. You can still make out the fishing gear, the winches, the wheelhouse structure. It feels like she just went down, rather than being stripped bare. Schools of pollock often hang suspended above the deck, and we've spotted some impressively large conger eels tucked away in the darker recesses. Our favourite find? A couple of times we’ve seen bull rout poking out from under plates, their spiny heads looking prehistoric. The wreck sits upright, making navigation straightforward, but there are plenty of nooks and crannies for those who like to poke around with a torch. It’s a site that rewards multiple dives.
