RONA OR ARONA - South Coast
The Rona, sometimes called the Arona, lies in very shallow water off the South Coast of Ireland, barely two metres deep at high tide. We're talking about a sailing vessel built in Glasgow back in 1867, which met its end in a fog in 1893. What’s left of her is now a scattered wreck, perfect for a leisurely explore, especially if you're keen on finding history in a calm setting. You won't be penetrating any intact cabins, but the broken timbers and metal provide plenty of nooks for small crabs and blennies. It’s a gentle spot, great for a longer surface interval or for divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of an aged wreck, rather than dramatic drops.
