Why dive here
With 185+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - ZETA offers some of South Coast's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 9-15°C, warmest July, August, September.
Dropping down onto the Zeta feels like stepping back in time, a substantial steamship resting at 60 metres, a sombre reminder of September 1917. She was torpedoed, and the wreck holds that story in her broken hull, still very much intact for her age and depth. We’ve found the stern section particularly interesting, with a good amount of structure to explore, the metalwork now home to plumose anemones swaying gently in the current. This is a deep dive, naturally, so it’s one for experienced technical divers who appreciate the history and the silent beauty of a well-preserved wreck. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for the South Coast, but on a good day, the scale of the Zeta is impressive.

Maximum depth 60m exceeds recreational limits (40m). Technical diving certification and equipment required.
Wreck site - avoid penetration without wreck diving certification. Watch for sharp metal and entanglement hazards.
Cold water this month (avg 14°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
Always perform a 3-minute safety stop at 5m before surfacing.
