GIRL MAUREEN - West Coast

The Girl Maureen is a proper deep dive, sitting upright at 51 metres, and she’s quickly become one of our favourite Irish wrecks. We love that she's so intact; you can still make out the wheelhouse, the mast, and the winches, all just as they were when she was built in Killybegs back in '79. Diving her feels like stepping back in time, seeing a working fishing boat frozen in its final moments before she was towed for scrap. Drop down her main mast and you’ll find conger eels peering from every crevice, while dogfish often cruise the deck. The visibility here can really surprise you on a good day, allowing you to appreciate the sheer scale of her 26-metre length. We’d suggest a sidemount setup if you're keen on poking around the holds; there’s some surprising penetration to be had, but definitely for experienced wreck divers only. This site suits those comfortable with deco and colder temperatures, offering a wonderfully preserved example of Ireland’s fishing heritage now completely colonised by the sea.
