Why dive here
With 169+ marine species recorded in the area - including dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales, ocean sunfish (mola mola) and octopuses - Illaunabaha offers some of West Coast's richest diving. Water ranges 8-17°C, warmest July, August, September.
Illaunabaha is a solid shore dive on Ireland's west coast, offering easy access for a relaxed day out. We've found the wall here holds a good variety of nudibranchs if you take your time, along with crabs tucked into the crevices. It’s a site that works well for newer divers getting comfortable with temperate water, or photographers keen on macro subjects without the fuss of a boat. Expect typical Irish visibility, around 5-10 metres on an average day.
Safety Notes
Cold water this month (avg 14°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
