With 169+ marine species recorded in the area - including dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales, ocean sunfish (mola mola) and octopuses - MARIE offers some of West Coast's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-17°C, warmest July, August, September.
The *Marie*, a wooden fishing vessel that went down in '94, sits upright at 23 metres off Donegal Point. She's not a huge wreck, but there’s enough structure for a decent explore, especially if you’re into the way the sea reclaims things. We’ve found her wheelhouse largely intact, and a lot of the deck machinery is still recognisable – winches and the like. Expect to see plenty of local crabs tucked into every nook and cranny, and if you have good eyes, you might spot a few dogfish resting on the sand nearby. It’s a solid dive for those who appreciate the history beneath the waves and the way marine life adapts to new habitats.
