VIKTOR LYAGIN - West Coast

The Viktor Lyagin, a Russian container ship, hit rocks and ran aground back in 1992. Now she rests in shockingly shallow water on the west coast of Ireland, her bow breaking the surface at low tide. It’s an almost surreal sight, a massive hull just metres deep. We love how the strong Atlantic swells have sculpted the metal over the decades, giving it a raw, industrial beauty. Because it’s so shallow, the light here is incredible, illuminating the thick kelp forests that sway and dance around the wreck. We often spot conger eels peeking from the darker recesses and the occasional curious seal zipping past. The sheer scale of the Lyagin, even in its broken state, is impressive. You can trace the deck lines, spot the massive prop shaft, and imagine the ship’s final moments. It's not a deep, dark penetration dive, but a chance to really interact with a piece of maritime history in a vivid, sunlit environment. This spot is perfect for photographers, or anyone who appreciates a wreck with a story, easily accessible and always dramatic.
