HMS ST ANGELO - Comino

The HMS St Angelo isn't the biggest wreck in Malta, but we reckon it's one of the most atmospheric. Dropping onto the deck at 40 metres, you're immediately hit by the silence of that depth, broken only by your own bubbles. This tug, sunk in 1948, lies upright and relatively intact, making for an incredibly engaging dive. What we really love is how the St Angelo has become a living reef. Schools of barracuda often circle the mast, their silvery scales flashing in the gloom, and you'll spot moray eels peering out from gaps in the superstructure. We’ve even seen huge groupers lurking in the engine room, which is surprisingly accessible if you're comfortable with overhead environments. The wheelhouse is a highlight; it’s largely open, letting light filter through and illuminating the sponges and soft corals that now coat every surface. It feels like swimming through a ghost ship, but one absolutely bursting with life. This site is best for experienced divers comfortable with deeper profiles and, ideally, those with wreck specialities to really get the most out of the internal exploration.
